dishlist privacy policy
Effective 2026-09-10
dishlist is a dish-level restaurant guide. This policy describes everything the app collects, which is deliberately little.
Browsing without an account. You can browse every menu without signing in, and nothing identifies you when you do. The app downloads catalog updates from Google Cloud Storage; that is an ordinary web request carrying no account or device identifier. As you type in Search, the words you search are logged without anything that says who searched them.
What we collect when you sign in. When you sign in with Apple, we receive an anonymous account identifier — never your name or email address; we don't ask Apple for them. If you choose a handle, other users can find it and request to follow you.
What we store. The content you create: saved dishes, tags, rankings, follow requests and approvals, and any reports you submit. Each action the app sends carries a random identifier minted when you installed the app, so the server can recognize a repeat delivery; it is not your device's hardware or advertising identifier. We keep the history of your actions for as long as your account exists.
What we don't collect. Your location is used on your device to show distances and maps; it is never sent to our servers. The search log holds words and counts only, is kept without a set expiry, and is read only for trends. Beyond that we run no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.
Sharing. If you approve a follow request, the follower can see your saved dishes, tags, and rankings. We never sell or share your data with third parties. Sign-in is processed by Apple and Google Firebase Authentication acting on our behalf; our servers and catalog files run on Google Cloud.
Deleting your account. Delete your account any time from Settings inside the app. This removes your account, your saved dishes, tags, rankings, follow relationships, and action history from our servers. A report you filed stays on record with your identity removed from it.
Children. dishlist is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes. When this policy changes we post the new version here with a new effective date.
